Experiment

Today I happened across an anonymous "free-for-all" care package which was lying about, waiting for someone to claim the contents. Much of the candy had already been pilfered, so all that remained were a few $5 DVDs.

I pulled out one DVD for a movie called "The Room". On the DVD was a note. It said:

This is "The Room" by Tommy Wiseau.

Made in 2003, it is a 100% intentional drama about a love triangle in modern San Francisco.

It is the worst movie of all time.

It is so bad it is now being resold as a comedy.

There are now monthly midnight screenings in LA and NYC and 10 other cities in America where packed audiences come to scream and yell at this horrendous 99 minutes of pure cinema joy.

We hope you enjoy the film. [Ed note: Can we really say "film" if all footage is shot digitally and sent to DVD?]

Worst movie of all time? That's a bold statement to make. For this movie to be the worst movie of all time, it would have to be worse than "Manos: The Hands of Fate". Then again, "The Room" might have something going for it, since the only version of "Manos: The Hands of Fate" I ever saw was the Mystery Science Theater 3000 version—it was much more bearable with Tom Servo and Crow T. Robot constantly making wisecracks. It also helps when a movie is so laughably bad that you can actually see the clacker at the beginning of a new scene.

I don't know if I'm bored enough to watch a movie that's being marketed as "the worst movie of all time". But I have to admit, I'm tempted to actually try it.

Focus: What's the worst movie of all time. From Justin to Kelly? Star Trek V?
