"The nation that will insist upon drawing a broad line of demarcation between the fighting man and the thinking man is liable to find its fighting done by fools and its thinking by cowards."
This reminds me of my days as a lieutenant at Fort Bragg. On one notable afternoon, I received a call from a local infantry unit asking me if I had any aircraft that would be flying near Sicily Drop Zone. When I inquired why, they told the sad tale of a HMMWV that, unfortunately, was last seen falling from the belly of a C-130.
Without its parachute opening.
Could we lend a hand in the search?
Three Black Hawks and two OH-58Ds later, we finally found the wayward HMMWV, which had plowed through 30 feet of pine trees. Hey, as long as they found the serial number on the HMMWV, at least they could take it off the property book, right?
